Storm Damage
Unfortunately, the beautiful Miranda Gardens Motel had a Redwood tree fall on it crushing the awning and the office. I hope that their insurance covers the damage. Although I don’t know the owners, friends have spoken highly of them.
I hear rains and high winds are going to continue through the weekend. On their blog, Carol and Greg are reminding everyone to move animals out of low lying areas. And, Richard at Samoa Softball is urging everyone to avoid driving over the mountains if they can. He says that the truck drivers are complaining that the trailers are blowing like kites behind the big rigs and are hard to control. Eric at SoHum Parlance says the electricity is back on and there was some minor storm damage in town. Ernie tells about a tree through a house in Redway in the comments section of his post. Some poor woman was in it but not hurt. If your power is out, Heraldo and his readers have an amusing time talking about what you might be doing but, if your power is out you won’t be able to appreciate it until later.
Check out the photo credits for a nice review of the Miranda Gardens Motel and the people who run it.

Oh that’s too bad about the motel. Seems like Redwood trees are always falling on something in this kind of weather.
Beautiful, tremendously tall but with shallow root systems which makes them vulnerable this time of year. Actually, I’m amazed that so many of them live over a 1000 years.

We are getting hit pretty hard in Southern Cal as well, they say we are getting a half an inch per hour and the flood alerts are through the roof. No redwood trees though.

So, How’s things on “Storm Mountain” this morning.
Down here in the valley, we had lighning, thunder, hail, and gobs of rain. I’m not sure if the wind blew that hard , it was raining to hard to hear. I can’t wait for it to get daylight so I can go look at the river.

There is a picture of it on the front page of today’s Times Standard. I am glad to hear that no one was hurt.

After 24 hours, our power came back on this morning at 7:00 . I love our area and the storms can be quite exciting and beautiful. But, I do miss the power when it goes out. Not having power, means no water and no lights. We do have a generator that keeps us among the living but there’s nothing like a hot shower on a cold winter night and that is beyond us when PGE is down.
