Sea our Quilt

lighthouse quilt square

We’ve been making them this way for over ten years. Each woman takes some fabric, a piece of muslin with the sizes marked out, and creates a mini masterpiece. Then these squares are sewn together and quilted to make a full sized blanket- the resulting creation gives us a chance to be a part of something bigger.  We are all proud of having helped make fabric art–something truly beautiful.

These squares often take 40 to 50 hours a piece so the amount of time in a full sized quilt could take one woman a whole year to complete. Nearly forgotten arts like embroidery and the even more rare ribbon embroidery flow over different squares and build each artist’s vision into a tangible reality.

This Winter’s quilt is a variation on the theme of the North Coast and each woman has done extraordinary work.

None of my work is on the current quilt. Nonetheless, in my opinion, this may be one of Salmon Creek School’s finest quilts yet.

Raffle tickets are on sale at the Winter’s Arts Fair in Redway.

The Winter Art’s Fair is so festive that I’m even more in the mood for Christmas.

I wish you all could see the individual handiwork that goes into these quilts. They are so beautiful and filled with love.
